Alceste, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence 2010

Gluck’s reform operas give the chorus and orchestra huge dramatic responsibilities. Mr. Loy’s staging exacerbated these responsibilities, and miraculously they were met by English Voices, a chorus of 32 young singers who sang with magnificent Baroque gusto and seemed quite at home acting like six-year-olds. – Opera Today

English Voices demonstrates a beautiful cohesion without neglecting the sometimes complex choreography (they manage to integrate with the dancers without one being able to tell the difference between them). – Le Monde

[…Ivor] Bolton's replacement Timothy Brown […] prepared the professional chorus English Voices for this performance, so might have been a natural choice as a substitute conductor, and anyone who was lucky enough to hear his peaking turn-of-the-century choir at Clare College Cambridge will be aware of his outstanding gifts as a trainer of ultra-disciplined choirs. And he didn't disappoint here, either, maintaining watertight control of tempi and blend, even if some unexpected rough-edges in the chorus attempted a breakout (yes, we know you're all aspiring soloists!). – Andrew Mellor The Filter Review
